ON THE GROUND

Doctolib puts monthly appointment reminders at 93 million — and confirms forgetting is still the top cause of no-shows

In its official analysis of missed appointments, Doctolib reports that 93 million reminders are sent every month across France, Germany and Italy, and that the "no-show, no notice" rate climbs to 6.4% for new patients versus 3.5% for returning ones — a gap the platform attributes first to the automated reminder.

The figure comes from the best-placed source to document it: Europe's largest online booking platform for healthcare, drawn from real usage data, not a self-reported survey. Across all specialties, 4.1% of appointments go unhonored without notice — a rate that climbs to 6.4% for a first appointment with a professional the patient doesn't yet know. Doctolib explicitly ranks the appointment reminder as the first of three levers that limit the phenomenon, ahead of managing late cancellations or raising patient awareness.

That's the same logic AppH's Pack Accueil applies to a domiciliation agency: a due-date reminder, a pending mail pickup, or a mandate renewal, sent at the right time without manual work, with every send tracked. Healthcare isn't AppH's sector, but the mechanism documented by the market leader in online booking — forgetting as the top cause, the automated reminder as the first fix — applies to any appointment or deadline set in advance, whatever the industry.

For AppH

  • The platform handling the largest volume of appointments in Europe is the one confirming, with its own usage data (not a survey), that the automated reminder is the first lever against forgetting — validating the same principle behind the Pack Accueil, applied to a different kind of deadline.
  • The gap between new patients (6.4%) and returning ones (3.5%) shows the risk of forgetting is structural, not anecdotal — it hits hardest at the start of a relationship, exactly when a new agency client most needs a reliable reminder.

Against / the honest limit

  • Doctolib is a healthcare software vendor, not a neutral source: these figures come from a press release accompanying the launch of its own features, even though they're built on real usage data.
  • No equivalent data exists for the business domiciliation sector: these figures come from healthcare, an industry with a different appointment rhythm than a mail pickup or a mandate renewal at an agency front desk.

That the automated reminder is named the first line of defense against forgetting by the operator handling the most appointments in Europe is a useful signal, even outside healthcare: the mechanism — a deadline set in advance, a reminder sent at the right moment, with nothing forgotten on either the agency's or the client's side — doesn't depend on the trade. AppH applies this principle to mail pickup and mandate renewal rather than medical consultations, but the problem it solves is identical.
